At the Tudor House we have 20C theme, come and meet the reenactors portraying soldiers, both allied and axis from ww1 and 2 plus life on the home front and how they would have to mend and make do – recycling before it became fashionable
In Greyfriars NT property we have the Wythe retinue showing what life was like in the Tudor period and The Lippett Household with music dance and feasting from the Elizabethan period, those that want to can even participate in some of the dancing.
At the commandery we have from Roman British through to WW2, There are craft workers showing demonstrating crafts from roman to early medieval, medieval groups displaying tools of torture, weapons and civilian life, in the Inner Garden will be a small living history encampment with knights in armour giving combat displays. In the Great Hall will be Elizabethan dancing with Glorianna and a chance to join in, there will be medieval music to listen to. We have a series of 20 minute Historical talks on different topics and periods throughout the weekend.
17C sees the English Civil Wars 1642 – 1651, seeing conflict throughout England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales between the royalists and Parliament. We have reenactors portraying aspects of civilian life. And soldiers – Musket, Pike and Cavalry. There will be drill displays, with muskets firing and with the opportunity to join in and see what it was like to be a pikeman of that period. Mid 1700’s saw the ‘Lace Wars. And 1800’s we have Napoleonic soldiers. See the Shackleton display talk to the reenactors and hear the story of The British Antarctic Expedition 1907–09. WW1 and WW2 equipment, weapons displays and drills
We have Kevin Goodman the ’Time Travelling Medicine man’ learn about medical treatment, the instruments and how they were used in times gone by. An exhibition of scouting memorabilia with lots of local history, and a period encampment in the Courtyard Garden Also in the Courtyard we will Have some WW2 military vehicles.
